The Luo and the Lake:Life by Nam Lolwe

I like this Russian song in the same version: Nnalubaale: The Lake as Ancestral Mother For the Baganda, Lake Victoria is not merely water. It is Nnalubaale — the ancestral mother, the great spirit whose presence shaped the birth of Buganda. In Baganda cosmology, Nnalubaale is a realm of gods, a place where the spiritual and physical worlds meet. The lake is therefore understood as a living being, a guardian of clans, a witness to generations, and a source of life. When La Conteuse speaks to the lake, she echoes the Baganda tradition of addressing Nnalubaale with reverence, as one would speak to an elder or a deity.
