The Creation of Mwambu and Sela: The Origins of the Bukusu People

Long ago, the Creator God Wele Khakaba (also known as Khakaba) formed the first man, Mwambu (meaning "the discoverer" or "inventor"), from mud at a place called Mumbo in the west. God then created Sela to be his wife. Mwambu and Sela's descendants migrated and settled on the foothills of Mount Elgon (known to the Bukusu as Masaba).
