Migration Story
Migration Story My roots sit deep in Buganda, where the hills roll gently and every village has a story older than its oldest elder. I grew up between Kampala and Mpigi, moving with my parents as work and life demanded. My grandparents remained in the ancestral village, keeping the clan land, the banana groves, and the traditions that remind us who we are. Even when city life pulled us forward, our identity stayed anchored in the Ffumbe clan β the civet cat, the keeper of calm wisdom. My journey is not one of exile or great distance, but of weaving modern life with the rhythm of Bugandaβs heritage. Heritage Journey I come from a people who believe that culture is lived, not stored. In my family, we learned obuwangwa through everyday life β greeting elders properly, respecting clan totems, knowing which foods honour which ceremonies, and understanding that a Muganda stands tall through discipline and courtesy. My heritage is shaped by bulungi bwansi (community work), ekika gatherings, and the quiet pride of belonging to a kingdom that still beats strongly in the hearts of its people. Even as I build my future in the city, I carry Bugandaβs values: respect, order, generosity, and the belief that a person is never complete without their clan. Cultural Identity Statement I am Muganda β shaped by (Ffumbe) the civet catβs calm, guided by clan elders, strengthened by community work, and grounded in the traditions that make Buganda more than a kingdom: a way of life.
